Understand what changed, what the warning means, and what to do next.

Modern vehicles connect cameras, radar, steering, braking, body electronics, security gateways, and dozens of computers. This guide helps you collect the right information without guessing at the diagnosis.

START WITH WHAT HAPPENED

Choose the situation closest to yours.

You do not need to know the technical name. The repair history often tells SCK where to begin.

The windshield was replaced

A windshield-mounted camera may need calibration before lane, collision, traffic-sign, or automatic-high-beam features can operate as designed.

  1. Confirm whether the camera was removed or disturbed.
  2. Save the glass invoice and any warning messages.
  3. Send SCK the VIN and ask whether the manufacturer procedure requires calibration.

The vehicle had collision or body repair

Bumper, grille, mirror, hatch, quarter-panel, glass, and structural repairs can affect cameras or radar sensors even when the sensor itself was not replaced.

  1. List the repaired or removed parts.
  2. Note any ADAS warnings or unavailable features.
  3. Ask for a pre-scan, required-procedure review, and calibration plan before delivery.

It had an alignment or suspension repair

Alignment, steering, suspension, tire-size, or ride-height changes can change the direction a camera or radar sensor sees down the road.

  1. Keep the alignment report.
  2. Tell SCK what suspension or steering parts changed.
  3. Have the exact vehicle procedure checked before assuming an alignment alone completes the work.

A warning appeared after a repair

A warning after service can point to an unplugged component, stored fault, setup issue, calibration requirement, or a separate problem that needs diagnosis.

  1. Photograph the exact warning before cycling the ignition.
  2. Write down when it appears and which features stopped working.
  3. Do not clear codes or disconnect the battery just to hide the warning.

A module, camera, or sensor was replaced

Replacement parts may require configuration, programming, aiming, calibration, or secure-gateway access before the system is complete.

  1. Save the part number and repair invoice.
  2. Confirm whether the part is new, used, or remanufactured.
  3. Send the VIN so SCK can check the supported programming and calibration path.

The vehicle will not start or has electrical problems

Low voltage, network communication faults, security issues, wiring problems, or failed modules can create symptoms that a basic code read cannot explain.

  1. Describe what happens when the key or start button is used.
  2. Report recent battery, jump-start, collision, water, or repair history.
  3. Avoid repeated jump-start attempts if wiring is hot, smoking, or damaged.

Vehicle scan

Communicates with supported vehicle computers to retrieve fault codes, status information, and other available data. It documents clues; it does not automatically identify the failed part.

Diagnosis

Uses scan data, symptoms, measurements, wiring information, repair history, and targeted testing to find the cause of a problem.

Programming

Installs or updates software and configuration in a supported vehicle module. Programming does not replace the physical repair or calibration a system may also require.

ADAS calibration

Measures, aims, teaches, or verifies a camera, radar, or related sensor according to the exact vehicle procedure so the system knows where it is looking.

Documents available vehicle faults and system status before repair or calibration, helping identify pre-existing conditions and repair requirements.

WHAT MAY NEED CALIBRATION

The safety feature you notice may depend on several sensors.

A warning name describes the feature, not always the failed component. SCK checks the exact vehicle and repair procedure.

Forward camera

Lane departure, lane keeping, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high beam, and forward-collision support.

Front radar / ACC

Adaptive cruise control, following-distance, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency-braking support.

Rear radar / blind spot

Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assistance.

Around-view cameras

360-degree, bird’s-eye, park-assist, front, rear, and side-camera views.

Steering and motion sensors

Steering angle, yaw rate, ride-height, and related information used by stability and driver-assistance systems.

Protected vehicle computers that may require registered tools and authorized secure-gateway access.

Why a small setup error matters

Cameras and radar look far down the road. A small aiming error at the sensor can become a much larger position error at driving distance. Correct calibration requires measured placement, suitable conditions, the correct targets or road procedure, and verification—not visual guessing.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Answers without the shop jargon.

Is a diagnostic scan the same as a diagnosis?

No. A scan retrieves available vehicle data and fault codes. Diagnosis uses that information with testing, repair history, wiring information, measurements, and manufacturer procedures to determine the cause.

Is clearing the warning code a repair?

No. Clearing a code removes stored information and may turn a warning off temporarily. It does not correct the condition that caused the code.

Does every windshield or bumper repair need calibration?

Requirements vary by vehicle, equipment, repair, and manufacturer procedure. The VIN and exact repair details must be checked before deciding.

What is the difference between static and dynamic calibration?

Static calibration uses measured targets and a controlled setup. Dynamic calibration uses a manufacturer-directed road procedure. Some vehicles require one method and some require both.

Can a wheel alignment replace ADAS calibration?

No. Alignment and ADAS calibration are different procedures. Correct alignment may be a prerequisite, but the camera or radar can still require its own calibration.

Will calibration fix every warning?

No. Active faults, damaged parts, incorrect installation, wiring problems, alignment issues, or unsuitable setup conditions may need correction before calibration can complete.

Can SCK come to my repair facility?

Mobile service may be available for qualifying facilities when indoor workspace, floor level, lighting, distance, and surrounding conditions meet the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements.

Why does SCK need the VIN?

The VIN helps identify the exact vehicle configuration, supported systems, procedures, software, and calibration requirements. It prevents guessing from appearance alone.
